At the southern end of Margitsziget, neighbouring on the "STADIUM" (i.e. the Atlétikai Centrum), there are situated four tennis courts of clay type and an adjoining clubhouse hidden under the branch off leading from Margit Bridge on to the island - this is the realm of the Sziget Klub. Based on the tradition of many decades, the club was established in 1996, exactly 10 years ago. It was founded by the local government and public bodies of the city Budapest. And, in their informal way, by different contributors, old and new members, and, first of all, by those who dreamed about a club and brought the dream into life.

They were considered dreamer because it was in those days and is nowadays equally a hard thing – so the realist say at least – to set up a sports centre and to lobby and struggle for it.

Now the founder have only the nostalgic recollection of the old patched-up clubhouse with its fine stale smell.

Nothing from the past of the club should be lost in the new era. We shall treasure all the memories of the tennis courts, our tennis team that always put up a good fight in the local league, the sports-mates and the companies they kept, the dressing rooms with showers, the food and drink served up at the open-air pool, filled up with thermal water, the terrace for sunbathing and the outdoor café or, in rainy hours, the other pleasures in the restaurant.

The new era brought a lot as well. E.g. all-year operation due to the tent erected now over two of the courts in winter.

This clubhouse, built to the delight of the club members and visitors, is now a secret gem of the island and, like the prior one, will serve sport and sports fan for a long period.
